I read with special interest the Hot Type piece on Jack Hafferkamp in the June 24 issue. Jack was my intro professor at Medill during the winter 1993 quarter, and I have only good things to say about him and his teaching methods. Jack’s support and encouragement were part of what got me through that difficult first quarter, and his sense of humor enlivened the course’s often-tedious pace. While Jack sometimes mentioned Libido in class, it was only to give examples of his experience with a start-up magazine or in response to questions. It’s safe to say that everyone respected his endeavors with the magazine regardless of its content.

Shame on Dean Janeway and Medill for ousting an excellent teacher (not to mention a fun guy), and even more shame on Janeway for using such a pathetic excuse when the true reason is painfully obvious.
