We find it a pity Peter Margasak failed to mention, in his article regarding the Independent Label Festival (ILF) [Post No Bills, July 26], that he graced the ILF with his acrid presence on the press panel last year. He also failed to mention that he got royally slagged by the audience and the other panelists for his narcissism. Oh, we’re sorry if he had a bad experience last year. I’m sure that had nothing to do with his slant in his recent piece about the ILF. I know it’s just his original writing shtick that inspired him. Peter’s simplistic comparison of the minimally funded, not-for-profit ILF to multimillion dollar events like South by Southwest and CMJ is rather absurd. Pity he couldn’t be at the fest to hear from the people attending from labels like Wax Trax/TVT, Invisible, Waterdog/Whitehouse, Pravda, and Cargo or to check out panels with people like Bob Weston of Shellac or Jon Langford of Mekons/Waco Brothers. Let alone that he didn’t catch D’arcy or James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins celebrating their label (Scratchie Records) showcase onstage with Chainsaw Kittens. But those are just a few things he missed. Hope to see Peter and the horse he rode in on next year.
